In our community there are so many kids who don’t take the big steps necessary to take advantage of traditional youth programs. They often want more out of life, but these kids end up ‘outside the fence’. They live the street life, maybe because they lack parental involvement, or just have a bad attitude. Honestly, most traditional youth programs aren’t set up for kids who tend to be a distraction, struggle to stay focused and don’t follow the rules.
Providence Road exists to “jump the fence” so that we might engage these youth, especially those who tend to be natural leaders and are teachable, but don’t fit existing programs.
The Providence Road program seeks to end the cycle of generational poverty. Our goal is to change attitudes and change the culture, “outside the fence”.
What We Teach
Providence Road happening on the street with youth…
and enjoying adventure. It’s the good stuff.
Track Record
Providence Road offers youth who have made bad choices as they struggle to manage a tough life, the opportunity to build a track record.
communicate
showing up
stay focused
finish well
We use snacks and G-2 Gatorades to teach them how to receive with grace and gratitude rather than “taking”. By cleaning up after themselves and the group, they learn to be responsible with what they have received, and the culture begins to change.
responsibility
As youth establish a track record of being responsible at home, school, and the community, they are offered a chance to step up in leadership roles. We give our youth chances to be strong, strong in the choices they make, and strong on behalf of others. We call this “taking big steps”, which we highlight at each meeting.
Affirmation is a huge part of the Providence Road culture. We don’t like making excuses, but are big on timing and getting second opinions.
Ownership
Only those who live in a community can ‘own’ their community.
At Providence Road, we call ourselves the “Jump Team”. Our Jump Team leaders are teens who live in the neighborhood, and go after youth, inviting them to take “big steps”. Those taking “big steps” start to believe in the power of steps, ownership happens, and the culture changes. We say these youth are now ready, ready for more opportunity that the community wants to provide.

We envision a community where tough youth have an invitation to:
live a bigger story supported by adults and youth leaders
the opportunity to learn new skills,
exposure to the world outside their neighborhood, and
a stipend to help them meet their needs
